Frequently Asked Questions | Windshield Repair & Replacement

Can my windshield be repaired, and how does that process work?

Most rock chips around the size of a quarter or smaller can be repaired.  We do have some success with larger damage, but this is rare.  Please text a photo of the damage if you are unsure and we will figure out what works best for you.

Your windshield is 2 panes of glass bonded by a sheet of laminate.  A rock chip is empty space where the glass is separating from the laminate.  We fill this empty space with resin, bonding everything back together.

How long does a windshield repair take?

Most windshield repairs can be done in less than 30 minutes.

Will I still be able to see the damage?

The Windshield Doctor is committed to providing the best looking repair available in. However, we cannot make any guarantees that the damage will disappear.  Rest assured we will do everything we can to get your windshield looking as good as possible.

When does my windshield need to be replaced and why?

Your windshield should be replaced when the damage is beyond the point of repair.  A cracked windshield is a safety issue if you get in a serious accident.

How long does a windshield replacement take?

Most windshield replacements take between 1.5 – 2.5 hours.

What is ADAS?

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.  This all-encompassing term refers to the safety features found in most cars manufactured in the last few years.  These features include Lane Departure Warning System, Forward Collision Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, as well as many others.

Some of these systems are controlled by forward facing cameras found near the rear view mirror.  When a windshield is replaced, the camera must be taken off the old windshield and reattached to the new one.  Because the camera is moved, it must be recalibrated to ensure that the safety features function correctly.
